One thing in today’s world has gained more importance among privacy, security, cybersecurity, are hacking groups. They have gained more popularity and importance not only among the Internet, but they have turned out to be resourceful for their governments. But this doesn’t mean that these groups do not target Governments.

  1. ANONYMOUS: Anonymous is a decentralized international activist/hacktivist collective and movement widely known for its various cyberattacks against several governments, government institutions and government agencies, corporations, and the Church of Scientology. It was established in 2003 and is a leaderless organization which projects itself as the cyber-guardian of human rights and vows to fight again injustice.
  2. LAZARUS: Lazarus, known by its many names, is a notorious hacker group of again unknown number of individuals run by the North-Korean state. Lazarus Group has been linked to some of the most high-profile cyberattacks in recent years, including the infamous WannaCry ransomware attack in 2017 that infected more than 300,000 devices across the planet, making untold amounts of money in ransoms for the rogue state regime.
  3. FANCY-BEAR: Known by many names like Pawn Storm, Sofacy group is a Russian hacking group. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has said with a medium level of confidence that it is associated with the Russian military intelligence agency GRU. The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as security firms SecureWorks, ThreatConnect, and Fireeye’s Mandiant, have also said the group is sponsored by the Russian government.
  4. EQUATION GROUP: The Equation Group, classified as a highly advanced and sophisticated group, is suspected of being tied to TOA of the USA. They use tools that are very complicated and expensive to develop, in order to infect victims, retrieve data and hide activity in an outstandingly professional way, and utilize classic spying techniques to deliver malicious payloads to the victims.
  5. LIZARD SQUAD: Lizard Squad is a black hat hacking group mainly involved in targeting gaming websites. However, the group gained wide fame after it hacked into Malaysian Airlines website and defaced it with the message “404 — Plane not found”; an apparent reference to their lost flight MH370 with 239 people onboard. The group also attacked Facebook, Sony and X-Box.

These hacking groups can be more notorious and dangerous with the help of technology further in 2022. And the list isn’t over yet, there are more dangerous and notorious groups in existence, and you might not know of it or never even have heard of it.
